This year’s NC3Rs CRACK IT Challenges will be launched at an event held on 7 September in central London.
The 2017 CRACK IT Challenges competition consists of three Challenges identified jointly by the NC3Rs and Sponsors. This year the competition is funded by the NC3Rs with in-kind contribution from the Sponsors. There are three Sponsors (Shell, Syngenta and Unilever).
The Challenges are detailed in the Challenge briefs which include a description of the problem to be solved, the 3Rs benefits, the names of the Sponsors and the nature of their proposed in-kind contributions, the notional financial cost of the project (the sum to be awarded by the NC3Rs), the potential timescale of the work and proposals for the organisation of the project. The 2017 Challenges are listed below:
- Challenge 26: “DARTpaths”: Mapping developmental and reproductive toxicity (DART) genes and pathways for cross-species comparison of toxic compound effects (Two Phase Challenge Sponsored by Shell and Syngenta).
- Challenge 27: “DoCE (Dosing for Controlled Exposure)”: Dosing strategies for in vitro dose-responses with increased relevance for in vivo extrapolation. (Two Phase Challenge Sponsored by Unilever and Shell).
- Challenge 28: “RespiraTox”: In silico model for predicting human respiratory irritation. (Single Phase Challenge Sponsored by Shell).
A draft agenda can be found here.
The meeting will consist of introductory talks on CRACK IT and open innovation in the current economic landscape.
There will also be Challenge surgeries where Sponsors will introduce their specific Challenge and answer questions from registrants and potential applicants.
There will be a networking session where delegates have the opportunity to meet potential new collaborators and partners to solve the Challenges.
The launch event is free to attend but registration is essential.
